Foreign Scams are getting more sophisticated
"Is this Terry G>>>?" "Yes". Terry, listen to me very carefully (I have to anyway because your accent is so thick I can barely understand you). My name is Officer Steve Martin (Really?) and I am from the Law offices of the United Nations Firm (haha). Terry, you have a serious legal problem. There has been a lawsuit filed against your social security number. Now Terry, in order to avoid further legal action I am able to help you." (Thank God). He goes on the quote all of my personal info including bank acct #, social security number, address etc. Terry, you owe "Bleep Bleep" Company $350 you did not pay." I protest, he continues. "If you don't give me $2500 by tomorrow, you will find yourself behind the bar." (?? huh??) Again I protest and then hang up. I look up the phone number on my caller ID and surprise, surprise, surprise, it's associated with a scam. In fact there are about 25 phone numbers associated with the same scam and a large number of complaints. I add my 2 cents to the list of complaints and move on.
Everyday for 3 weeks these individuals have been calling me on my cell and at work. (Now I owe $11,000) They leave me rediculous messages with threats and descriptions of how I will be arrested the next morning. They end the message with, "Terry, if you ignore my warning all I can do (dramatic pause) is wish you good luck as this legal problem unfolds on you. Goodbye and have a blessed day." Yeah, like our legal officials and law enforcement agencies end their calls with have a blessed day.
Today I have received 4 calls so far from them. you know the commercial with the guy answering the phone hello this is Peggy? Well it's not so funny when it's happening to you. I know they are scammers. I tell them every time they call me they are trying to scam me. Why do they keep calling?
I even said to one of them "You're losing money calling me. Do't you get it? I'm on to you." Even though I can't imagine falling for their crap, people do! Probably pretty often since they are so persistent.
Like most of us I was hoping they would just go away. But they tried to take out money from my bank account. God Bless online banking cause I caught it and alerted the bank. So I had to change my account, 3 direct deposits and throw away my special Dolly Mama checks I just ordered.
They've disrupted my life and I'm pretty, pretty, pissed off about it. I went online and reported them to the PA State Attorney's Consumer Affairs Division and received a call from one of their employees who very considerately told me they know about them but can't do anything because usually this is a group located overseas. (Find out what country, like we don't know and drop a bomb. We have smart bombs. I'd like to see one travel right down the street, knock on their door and blow their asses up!) The lady from the State Attorney's Office also recommended I don't aggravate them. DON'T AGGRAVATE THEM! You're kidding me right? How about how I feel Government of mine. So she told me she called them (is this nuts or what) and told them to take me off their list. HAHAHA like they have a do not call list. She said if they continue I could try my local police. Oh yeah because they are equipped to investigate a bunch of crank callers from overseas much better than say the FBI or Homeland Security.
But I am desperate so I called my local police who said they had a case like tha a few years ago (YEARS) and I should report them to the Federal Trade Commission, which I did.
People, I've learned a valuable lesson here. Don't ignore these types of criminals in hopes they'll leave you alone to prey on someone else. Let's demand our government put an end to this consumer war on America.
We have a right to answer our phones and not have some foreign a**hole trying to take our money. Since 10 am they have left 7 voice mails on my phone. I don't know what to do. I'm tired of it and so angry that I can't stop them that it eats at me. Yes, I can change my cell phone # but they have my work number and I don't want them calling there as often they do my cell.
If someone from the government reads this and knows a way to catch them or at least block them, please comment me with your email or number. Of course, you're going to have to show tons of ID before I believe you.
